Early the next morning

Okay, so it wasn't quite the next morning, but I arrived at work on Monday morning to a rather stressful situation. The power was switched off to our server room over the weekend, but we knew that. We were getting some new socket outlets put in because the circuit that fed the server room was protected by a 25A circuit breaker & it was drawing 26A. This was supposed to be all fine, shut down the servers on Friday night, come back on Monday morning to start them all up again, no worries, right? Wrong! R came in on Sunday afternoon to start up the Netware Servers & one of them didn't start, "Go away, not talking to you!" Bother! I received an e-mail from Monkey late on Sunday night so I was expecting this, however when I arrived about quarter past seven on Monday morning I went & turned the Mac servers on and made sure they all started up nicely. One service on one of the servers didn't start up but I didn't worry about it too much, until the phone rang at around twenty past eight, it was a Mac user saying they couldn't log in. Bother! So we've been pulling our hair out for the past 2 days trying to get things back up and running, the Mac server is back on line and the files are slowly being restored, off tape, to the new NetWare server.

The good news is that A is trying to organise a group of us to go to Ceroc lessons, which should be lots of fun! (Apparently this is the correct spelling, not SaRock like I put in my last post)

Late One Night

So now it's Saturday, at least I think it's Saturday. (I suspect being up for 20 hours yesterday has something to do with that, I was going to write this post when I got home but it was nearly 1:30am so I decided not too)

The ball was absolutely wonderful, it's the best fun that I've had in ages. Everybody looked really flash. We did a couple of Waltz's and also did the Gay Gordon twice. K & I managed to do the Cha Cha to one of the songs but it wasn't really designed for it. When we were going through the DVD earlier in the week we didn't do the Rumba but maybe we should've instead of the Cha Cha. During one of the songs B showed me some of the steps for the Rumba and it fitted in better with some of the music they were playing than the Cha Cha did (but it was hard work!) Ariskah & I were going to have a go at the Fox Trot but the people who were demonstrating how it went didn't really know how it went. By the time we thought we had it figured out, the song finished. Fortunately the next one was a Waltz so we did that instead. There were some people there doing SaRock and that looked really cool, I must find out more about that. About midnight I drove home with Ariskah and then KC bought me back, I walked in the door and K said they'd just done the last Waltz & she'd had to dance by herself cos I wasn't there. I was gutted that I'd missed it but oh well.

The other really cool thing that happened yesterday is that I got my new commodore. It's a 1996 VS wagon with a 3.8l V6. It is automatic but I couldn't find a manual one. Also, I was talking to M & he said his brother had a manual one and it wasn't very reliable. It's shiny and green (or blue, depending on how the light catches it.)

Today, when I finally got out of bed I went to the Railway Engineers place for a quick visit, I took the Silly Little Japanese Car because his wife wanted to have a drive of it and see what she thought. She's going to buy it & I can't say I'm sad to see it go, now all I have to do is put a new WOF on it.

The Best Day of the Week

What do you think the best day of the week is? For me it changes but this week I would have to say that Friday will definitely be my favourite. Exciting things are happening on Friday and much of my day for the past 2 days has involved preparing for Friday. 2 VERY important things are happening on Friday, firstly the Kings Ball is on. This will be a heap of fun and so far the preparation has involved dancing lessons, which are lots of fun. I've never done anything like this before (dancing I mean, I've been to the ball) and I think it probably shows. The other thing that is happening on Friday is top secret and I can't tell you about it, sorry.

Cha Cha Cha

Weird Al Yankovic has a song called "Everything you know is Wrong" the chorus of which goes

Everything you know is wrong
Black is white, up is down and short is long
And everything you thought was so important
doesn't even really matter

He was right. The Kings Ball is coming up on Friday night and so at church yesterday afternoon we had ballroom dancing lessons, I thought I had a reasonable idea of what was going on but it appears I didn't. This evening I went around to A's place and we had a look at an instructional DVD she had gotten from the library, this is where it started to get interesting. Apparently, what we were taught yesterday, was only partially correct. (Including turning the wrong way, it's so much more comfortable when you go the way you're supposed too) The DVD went through the steps at a slower pace, which I found useful, and showed us some other steps that we didn't learn yesterday. After a couple of hours of practice we managed to dance a complete Waltz and the first minute or so of a Cha Cha.

When I got home, I came inside and a few minutes later Mum came in and said, "Is that your little Mazda parked out there with 2 yellow lights on, on the front?" I said no but then thought that I had better go and check, it was. I figured that I must've bumped the fog light switch (which is right by the ignition) when I took the key out & then wondered why I didn't notice. (the fog lights light the place up real well.) I unlocked the car and went to turn the fog light switch off, funny it was already off. After some jiggling the lights went off, but then came back on, so I popped the bonnet and pulled the fuse. (I got the right one first time too!) Stupid Car!!
